The conference in Vilnius will focus on design topics arising during the periods of social, political, cultural and economic change. How do these changes influence design and how does design influence these changes? How are the trends of design development determined? Is it possible and is it worth to maintain regional design schools? Why and how changes foster innovation? What are the ways for new design actors to establish themselves in the global design market? 

Conference organizers will try to reveal the mechanism of change by presenting old and new trends of the Lithuanian design, inviting gripping keynote speakers, and offering specialized field trips.

Vilnius will be the Culture Capital of Europe in 2009 thus seminar participants will not only take part in the Design of Change, but also experience the spirit of the vibrant city and its numerous cultural events.

The Vilnius Academy of Arts (VAA) is a member of the Cumulus, the International Association of Universities and Colleges of Art, Design and Media since 1998. This association was created in 1990 as an academic forum dedicated to the enhancement of higher education and research in the fields of arts, design and media. Now it counts 140 university level design schools from 41 countries.
