furniture design competition 2009
_competition theme: public space furniture. Design in public place is the key curative for people – no matter what your age, your height or thickness of your wallet is. Thus, it is the right time to create a perfect piece of furniture, but not for home. Also not only for general manager office. Let’s think about nursery, hospital, school, prison… Do not forget about design therapy, design education or design ecology. Let the “design for the public” help us all understand “who we are?” “where we are?” “why we are?”.
_place and time: the best selected design products will be exhibited and the winners of the competition awarded during “Design week” 15-23 May, 2009 in Vilnius.
_participants: we invite to participate all creative personalities thinking in a non-standard and social way regardless their profession, age or political views.
_prize fund:
The winner of the competition will be granted with a competition [neformate] prize and 3000 Litas [870 EUR] cash prize award, as well as other valuable presents from sponsors. The product - winner will be developed and realized in the design house “Contraforma” and exhibited in one of the coming international design exhibitions.
The winner of the second place will be granted with a competition [neformate] prize, 2000 Litas [590 EUR] cash prize award, presents from sponsors and annual subscription of the design magazine “Centras”.
The winner of the third place will be granted with a competition [neformate] prize, 1000 Litas [300EUR] cash prize award and annual subscription of the design magazine “Centras”.
The winners of three other places will receive competition [neformate] diplomas, and the annual subscription of the design magazine “Centras”.
Winning entries and a selection of the works will be exhibited in the gallery “designers.lt”, also they will be published in the magazine “Centras” and internet portals www.neformate.lt ww.interjeras.lt and www.dizainoforumas.lt .
_design criteria: originality of design concept, sociability (first of all – the idea), harmony of function and aesthetics (amount of design in the object), manufacturing possibilities (pieces should be manufactured using technologies and manufacturing process which already exists in reality)
_important dates: competition will be held in two steps:
1st step: concepts, sketches, photos of the prototypes will be accepted until 16 March 2009.
The jury will define the best products which will be exhibited at the exhibition during “Design week” in Vilnius and will announce the selection results to the participants until 23 March 2009.
2nd step: the prototypes of the selected products have to be manufactured until 10 May 2009.
_presentation of competition material:

A4 landscape is a paper format for presenting sketches, schemes or other visual material;
The photos of the sketches, schemes, prototypes or models should present the design concept and general appearance of the product;
Together with the project you are requested to supply:
- a brief description of your work, design concept, intended product materials and manufacturing
technologies;
- authors’ full name, e-mail address, cell phone number.
2nd step: the prototypes of the selected design products should be made in the scale 1:1. Prototypes
should operate and be in good manufacturing quality.

Projects participating at the competition must be original works. Projects must be free from copyrights and any kind of obligation. The design shall not in any way infringe any third party’s right, including but not limited to copyright, logos, trademark, trade names, or other proprietary rights of publicity or privacy. By participating in the competition, all participants authorize design competition [neformate] organizers to publish and exhibit all the designs (including project data submitted) – waiving compensation – at exhibitions and events and/or to use them in any publications that the organizers may deem suitable and/or necessary.
