Design Innovations Centre of Vilnius Academy of Arts with starts a new international project together with VŠĮ "Vilnius - European capital of culture 2009" launch a project "Dizainas miestui/Design for city"
Message – Vilnius is European Capital of Culture 2009 announces - the capital of Lithuania will become a centre of various culture events, actions and projects. It is an exclusive occasion to represent Vilnius as modern, pulsating with arts, innovative ideas and distinctively original town.
City design elements, promotional posters, means of visual communication, logos of institutions and companies, informational-decorative accents, public transport, employees clothing details – all this is by local people and guests recorded parts of a town. Urban changes often connected with design, one way or another affects everybody and provokes positive or negative emotions.
The idea to transform Vilnius into European capital of Culture inspires new challenges to change local community and businesses attitude towards design and its rendered possibilities. In contemporary town design must be noticed, valuated and available to everybody. Citizens and guests feelings often depend on quality and plenty of design objects.
To implement cycle of events it will be invited modern design ideas representing designers from other countries, which gather intense experience how modern to use design for getting a value and to create positive product, services and the state image.
The aims:
• To present for community of Lithuania, citizens of Vilnius and foreign guests various forms of design and possibilities to reform quality of town environment, together with foreign artists to create and to offer new design objects in Vilnius city;
• To affiliate long term international relations between VAA and foreign design schools students and professors;
• To exhibit that design of all spheres is and must be available to everybody;
• To exchange experience of creation: to introduce to the students, pedagogues and design researchers, practicing designers with new theories of design teaching, research and realization methods.
